José Piquer
Graduated as a geologist from Universidad de Chile in January 2004. During the next eight years, he worked as an exploration geologist for CODELCO-Chile, searching for porphyry-style and IOCG deposits in central and northern Chile. From 2011 to 2014 he moved to Australia to complete his PhD at CODES, the ore deposits research center of the University of Tasmania. In 2015 he moved back to Chile, and since then he has been working as economic geology professor at Universidad Austral de Chile; since March 2021, he is also the director of the university’s Institute of Earth Sciences. His research is focused on understanding the structural controls and geochemical dispersion haloes on magmatic-hydrothermal systems.
